Colors of the year… Plus a special guest star!

Pantone, the world’s color authority, annually releases the new it color for the upcoming year. This year’s big news is that the company has decided to declare two colors are holding 2016’s title….. Rose Quartz and Serenity ! It’s actually pretty cool how they choose. Every year industry color experts have a secret meeting in a glamorous European city. They discuss what colors represent and what the world needs. For example, in the past when the world needed a hug and some cheering up a yellow tone was chosen.  This year the company is on trend with embracing gender fluidity. This is what Pantone had to say about their decision: The prevalent combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity also challenges traditional perceptions of color association.

In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.

Here are some inspiring ways we can integrate that into hair color. I’ve put together some looks associated with all of Pantone’s on trend colors for 2016.

A huge thanks to my gorgeous friend Robyn! She is the stunning green flash. I would like to point out she is a step ahead of Pantone …. Maybe she should attend their secret summits? Robyn is a perfect example of how a bold hair color choice is not just for print ads. To be be fair she does look like she should be a highly paid supermodel…. Love you girl. Xoxo Nichole
